I was inspired to paint this scene, as soon as I saw it on my walk with my family while visiting Charlottetown on Prince Edward Island in Canada. It was summer and people were strolling the island’s shores, relaxing in cafes and enjoying a lovely sunny weather. The scene reminded me my beloved Baku, also a port city on the shores of the Caspian Sea. The colors of the scene in Charlottetown, the business and joyful mood that enveloped us was invigorating. I snapped a few shots, and when I got back to my studio in Houston I painted this piece. It’s one of my personal favorites.
