Artist Statement — Narmin Backus

Narmin Backus is a Houston-based Christian Azerbaijani multimedia artist whose work explores the intersection of faith, culture, and visual storytelling. Trained at the Azerbaijani State University of Culture and Art, with additional mentorship under renowned artist Arif Aziz in Baku, she brings strong technical foundations and a refined color sensibility to her diverse practice.

Working across oil, acrylic, pastel, and hand-painted textiles—including silk and wearable art—Narmin blends fine art with expressive craftsmanship. Her subjects often draw from biblical narratives, wildlife, the human figure, and her Azerbaijani heritage. Through luminous color contrasts and dynamic compositions, she seeks to reflect the vitality and beauty of creation.

At the heart of her work is a desire to communicate light, hope, and spiritual depth. Each piece invites viewers to pause, reflect, and encounter beauty as an expression of faith and creative purpose.
